    Carol Astbury
    Carol has over 35 years experience as an authorised marriage celebrant in Western Australia; she has extensive experience as a trainer/assessor and provider of ongoing professional development to registered celebrants. Carol brings her wealth of experience and passion to the course, encouraging aspiring celebrants to create personally meaningful and deeply rewarding ceremonies for their future clients.

    Alan Milson
    Alan is a commonwealth registered marriage celebrant in Western Australia; he also has extensive experience as a trainer/assessor specialising in the fields of business ethics and legislation. Alan is passionate about raising the standards of professionalism in celebrancy; he brings his own unique style of delivery in a personable and practical way.

    Nathanael is a commonwealth registered marriage celebrant in Western Australia; he has recently gained his training and assessing qualification (TAA). Nathanael is one of the new and exciting celebrants and brings enthusiasm and fresh ideas to the team.
  • Michael Loney  - Regular Guest Presenter

    Michael Loney
    Michael is a commonwealth registered marriage celebrant; he is also a highly respected actor. Michael is a sessional lecturer in Voice, Acting and Theatre History at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Michael brings his special talents to QualTrain Australia’s Professional Voice Workshops for Celebrants.

CHC42608 Certificate IV in Celebrancy (Marriage and Funeral Celebrant Training)

From 3 February 2010, a person who applies to be registered as a marriage celebrant will need to hold the CHC42608 Certificate IV in Celebrancy or an equivalent university qualification in order to meet the qualification requirement to be registered.

Gaining this Certificate will meet the ‘qualification requirement’ however, applicants for registration as a marriage celebrant will also need to be assessed by the Attorney-General’s Department as meeting the ‘fit and proper person’ requirements for registration.

Attainment of the qualification does not automatically entitle registration as a marriage celebrant.

CHC42608 Certificate IV in Celebrancy covers the broad based skills and knowledge that underpin a range of celebrancy roles, as well as addressing specific legislative responsibilities of marriage celebrants and providing a range of electives representing different aspects of celebrancy work. Celebrants may specialise in a range of areas of celebrancy as well as developing skills to manage their own business operations.

13 units must be selected for this qualification including:

  • 5 compulsory units
  • 8 elective units – 4 of which are mandatory units required for registration as a marriage celebrant

Nationally Recognised Training

Funeral Celebrant Training

Funeral celebrancy is a true vocation. Before embarking on this course participants should consider whether or not they feel they have the empathy, fortitude and compassion to work within the Funeral Industry.

The course is structured as a classroom course requiring 5 days attendance as follows:

Day One       9.30am – 4.30pm full day in class
Day Two       9.30am – 4.30pm full day in class
Day Three     9.30am – 4.30pm full day in class

Day Three     8.30am    *field trip
Day Four       9.30am – 4.30pm full day in class

In addition to classroom attendance candidates will travel to various locations as a group, escorted by the trainer, the field trip includes: monumental cemetery, lawn cemetery, crematorium & chapel, funeral home (where possible viewing the mortuary as well as funeral home chapel), meeting with funeral home staff. Candidates are also required to complete two assignments (approximately 6 hours each) in their own time.

A description of the units of competency embedded in this course follows: these units comprise 4 elective units of competency from CHC42608 Certificate IV in Celebrancy. 

CHCS426A Provide support and care relating to loss and grief

This unit describes the knowledge and skills required to provide support for individuals who are experiencing loss, grief and bereavement

SIFIND001A Work effectively in the funeral services industry

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to identify the general structure of, and stakeholders within, the funeral services industry and to comply with workplace requirements.

SIFFNL009A Plan and conduct a funeral ceremony

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to prepare for and perform a funeral ceremony according to the needs of clients. This unit applies to funeral-conducting staff and involves working autonomously with a high level of responsibility. It requires the application of planning and communication skills to develop and deliver effective funeral ceremony speeches.

CUSMPF04A

This unit covers the technical and creative skills developed through rehearsal and private practice. It deals with planning and continual performance evaluation, repertoire knowledge and the application of OHS principles. At QualTrain Australia, we understand the demands put upon a funeral celebrant to perform - and perform exceedingly well during a funeral ceremony, hence we have adapted this course to include this unit, to enhance the performance of our professional funeral celebrants.

 

Refresher Courses for Registered Marriage Celebrants and Funeral Celebrants

QualTrain Australia offers a one day course for commonwealth registered marriage celebrants to refresh their skills and knowledge. This course covers important information such as ensuring eligibility of the marrying couple; all the documentation required prior to marriage,  and allows plenty of time for your questions and answers.

The next available Refresher course: Sunday 6th June 2010, Bassendean.  Enrolment is essential.

The Refresher course for funeral celebrants covers interviewing the bereaved family; procedures and protocols for various funeral services; and working effectively with funeral staff.

Professional Development - skills enhancement workshops

QualTrain Australia encourages continuous improvement as a culture focussed on improving the effectiveness of work and life practices. Our skills enhancement workshops are varied and valuable; covering topics such as preparing for presentations and managing performance nerves; developing a professional voice; professional delivery; creative writing; crafting ceremony for all rites of passage; and many more.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process of assessment which is aimed at confirming and recognising the competencies a person has obtained outside of a formal education and training environment. QualTrain Australia recognises that candidates may have substantial skills acquired through various combinations of formal and informal education and training, work experience or general life experiences. The RPL process may enable a person to bypass training and gain a qualification through an assessment only pathway.
